The passing of former player George Westwell

It is with great sadness that we have recently received the news of the passing of George Westwell, a former prominent playing member of the club.

George made his debut for the first eleven in 1955, covering for senior players absent owing to the Wakes Weeks holiday, making 20 with the bat. He became a regular from 1963 to 1971 playing 151 matches in all. He took 103 Lancashire League wickets @19.94 with his medium pace bowling and in later years often batted up the order scoring 1597 runs @13.42.

Our condolences go to all of George’s family.
