Obituaries to Fred Nuttall & Mark Lord

Bacup Cricket Club is mourning the loss of two members this week.

Fred Nuttall was a prominent playing member through a successful period in Bacup’s history. A very good middle order batsman and an excellent fielder, he played regular first team cricket from 1952 to 1964. Fred was a member of the 1956 Worsley Cup winning team alongside Sir Everton Weekes and gained two Lancashire League Championship medals in 1958 again with Sir Everton, and in 1960 alongside the fearsome Roy Gilchrist. He scored 1322 runs including two half centuries and took 41 catches in his 121 matches. Sadly Fred passed away last week only two days after the death of his wife Maureen.

Last weekend the club was in shock on receiving the awful news of the sudden death of Mark Lord whilst watching Bacup Borough football club. Mark has been a loyal member and supporter of the cricket club for many years, rarely missing a match. He was a very well known face around the town’s sporting venues who loved football and cricket. He will be sadly missed.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of both Fred and Mark at this very sad time.
