Peter Thompson is one of Bacup's all time top batsman. Thompson's dedication to Bacup is unquestionable and as yet after over a decade playing for the senior team as both player and captain he has not missed one game through injury or absence. During the 1999 season Thompson came upon a thin vein of form and was dropped to the second team. As a measure of his character he scored an unbeaten century and was subsequently reinstated as opening batsman the very next match. Looked upon as the team's talisman, Thompson has frequently lead by example and grafted his way to important match-winning totals. Mysteriously however despite his blatant talent as a quality LCL opening batsman, Thompson has never scored a century for the Lanehead club's senior team. (Bacup CC Website 2001).
